Metamorphosing before your very eyes

Not so long ago an inch long green caterpillar stopped on the skirting board in our dining area (No1 Shed) and turned into a chrysalis.  Some little time later I went for breakfast to find a new butterfly, which seemed to fly away happily enough, although the big blob of red blood seemed to be from the butterfly – perhaps its a normal part of metatmorphosis?

New butterfly, old chrysalis case and a blob of blood, all in the dining room.
