Wakefield Pinder

A Pinder was a person employed to control other peoples livestock, to keep them off places they shouldn’t be and hold them until the owners came to collect them.  Pinderfields Hospital, where my mum spent many months a long time ago, and where Sue now has a house, is probably the site of the field where the Pinder would place animals found roaming about.

There’s a pleasing steel statue of the Pinder between the bus station and Pindersfield Hospital.
