On lecture on Saturday was from a physicist, on the nature of time. But it was his opening slide I’d like to share, especially with any physicists out there (Fred):
In the evening we had a Gala Dinner in the Council Chamber of the University. Wine flowed like, you know, and the staff seemed so upset at the sight of an empty bottle they rushed forward to replace it with a full one. I did not complain. After dinner we flowed smoothly, with barely a hiccup into an adjacent lecture theatre for the annual society books and sundial paraphernalia auction. I bid strongly for an empty bottle – a rare event. But it had to be done. It is a black cherry soda bottle from the Jones Soda Company, and the label features a pleasing sundial by Woody Sullivan, the American member who inspired Jackie to paint our ceiling dial.
OK, it was only £3.
