Sundial Society Conference – Day 1: on the Thames and in pubs.

On our first evening – 24th April – we went for a river trip, upstream from Greenwich pier to the Houses of Parliament and back.  It was getting dark as we departed, but enough light for this picture of big clouds over the north bank.

Much darker when we got to Tower Bridge, but this gave even more dramatic pictures.

Earlier in the day had beer in the Rose and Crown, Croom Hill, where Brewsters’ Aromantica was on, as well as Oldershaw’s Heavenly Blonde.  Both pale and hoppy, the former being more US fruity hopped.  Also tried out a couple of Meantime beers – Yakima Red and the Wheat Beer were fine, and both their pale ales (London and the other one) were OK, but all spoilt for me by being gassy and too bloody cold.  All their beers at both the Old Naval College brewery and their pub nearby (Greenwich Union) were delivered cold and by carbon dioxide pressure.  And all £5 a pint.  Only 2 hand pump cask beers on at the old brewery – both Dark Star, so I drank them when we had supper there on Friday night – APA and Hophead.
