Over the years we have holidayed away and used pubs which have been named Cider Pub of the Year (POTY) shortly after. The Square and Compass at Worth Matravers has been the centre of two group holidays, and is a great real ale and cider pub, and was awarded the Cider POTY soon after. Staying in Scarborough was less pleasant, but we stayed at the Valley Bar, which became Cider POTY in 2007. I could not recommend staying there – nylon sheets and dirty rooms, but the cider phenomenon followed us.
Then a group of us stayed in West Lulworth, next door to the Castle Inn, where we drank some good beer and got fed up with thousands of dogs lining the floors. It has just been become the 2014 Cider POTY.
