After about 5 hours on the road we arrived in Swansea too early to pick up the house keys. Jackie remembered that Swansea Guild Hall is participating in the Open Heritage weekend, so we parked up and walked in through a rather grand side entrance.
Seemed they just left the door open, so we wandered free along corridors of 30s splendour.
Until we found the Frank Brangwyn paintings in the grand hall.
Huge panels of curious vegetation full of animals and often naked people working together to bring the produce of the world to Britain.
Apparently the House of Lords rejected the works and set up a competition to give them away. Swansea was in the middle of a job creation building project with its new Guild Hall and offered to home them. They had to re plan the grand hall, making it taller to accommodate the huge panels.
