Making a dial on Crosby beach

So we arrived at 10 am with the tide well out and selected a Gormley man on a patch of damp flat sand.  David Brown had done all the calculations and made up pre – marked measuring sticks so that the hour marks could be measured as points along the east west axis, then up or down the north south axis.   He had found a distant light almost due south to establish one axis and so the whole was drawn on the sand.  Jackie’s hour flags were set up, and surrounded by Driftwood cairns. Lots of people came by and asked questions.

Here David is placing a big log on the 12 mark.

Jackie added roman numeral twigs so that the dial can be read after we take our non – biodegradable markers away. Sunshine was in short supply sadly.
